Our long-term aim is to help all our students to achieve at least 5 grades A*-C at GCSE. To support students who traditionally have not achieved such success, we run Curriculum Support classes in Key Stage 3. The classes are for those students who achieve Level 3 or below in their Key Stage 2 Tests and focus on literacy and life skills.
Key Stage 3
At Pontarddulais Comprehensive all students subjects that make up the National Curriculum. Students are taught in mixed ability groups initially, which are based on their tutor groups. Students will have the opportunity to achieve various essential skills qualifications at the end of Key stage 3.
Key Stage 4
The curriculum in Key Stage 3 provides a sound foundation for the courses that students study in Key Stage 4.
In addition students have the opportunity to study some new subjects and some are offered an alternative curriculum with a weekly placement. Students can study for a range of qualifications from GCSEs, NVQs, BTECs and Level 3 qualifications.
Many of our students are gifted in particular ways and we aim to help them develop their talents to the full. All departments are required to identify More Able and Talented students and are expected to make provision for them.
Provision for Additional Learning Needs
Individual arrangements are made for students to reflect their learning needs. Pupils will receive support within the
classroom from teachers or learning support assistants. Some pupils are offered additional literacy and numeracy
support often in small groups with a specialist teacher.
